Bask in the Glory of Hawaiian Culture During a Calming Performance by These Music Masters
Inspired by a memorable experience, The Guitar Sanctuary was founded to create a music haven that serves as a gathering place for players, managed by musicians, where the finest guitars, amps and accessories can be explored. This weekend, The Guitar Sanctuary will welcome the Masters of Hawaiian Music which features Nathan Aweau, George Kahumoku Jr. and Kawika Kahiapo.
Three Masters bring Hawai‘i's unique folk styles, with origins in the early 19th century Hawaiian cowboy culture, to 21st century stages. The New York Times called them “Virtuosic keepers of a cultural flame.” Four-time Grammy-winner, master slack key George Kahumoku Jr., known as “Hawai‘i's Renaissance Man”, is a multiple Hawaiian Grammy Award winner, a vocalist, storyteller, songwriter and author.
A talented multi-instrumentalist, Nathan Aweau has been part of such award-winning groups as HAPA, Ka‘eo, and The Ali‘i. His seven solo CDs have won him multiple Na Hoku Awards, including Male Vocalist of the Year--the only person to have won 3 times, Song of the Year (twice), and Island Album of the Year, among others.
Slack Key Guitarist David “Kawika” Kahiapo most recently won Na Hoku Awards in multiple categories for his CD releases, including Slack Key Guitar Album and Island Music. A regular at Jack Johnson's Kokua Fests, his slack key roots and commitment to Hawaiian culture run deep. We encourage you to set some side aside to see the Master of Hawaii live on March 24!
